Still ahead of my 2022 reading goal even though I only read 2 books this month. I was a bit disappointed by one while the other left me wanting for nothing.

The Winter Sister by Megan Collins

I picked this up because I wanted to read a thriller and I’m trying my best to get through my older BOTM books. I really wanted to like this book, but it was pretty predictable to me. It was not fast-paced as described, and it definitely told more than it showed. I didn’t dislike the writing, and the cast of characters had some depth, but overall the plot wasn’t anything new or exciting to me.

Rating: 3 stars
Read if you: don’t mind a slower thriller, enjoy some Greek mythology parallels, need a book you can easily read through

Circe by Madeline Miller

I’m very late to the party on this one, but oh my gosh I LOVED this book! Which I’m sure everyone could tell me I would. This is also my first 5 star read of the year. One of the reasons I like reading Fitzgerald is because of how carefully and beautifully crafted the sentences are and how they make me feel. Reading Madeline Miller’s writing gave me this same feeling. It was so so stunning. Had I not enjoyed the book itself, I would’ve kept reading Circe solely for the writing. But I thoroughly enjoyed Circe and have now added Song of Achilles to my TBR.

Rating: 5 stars
Read if you: love a good Greek mythology story, are in the mood for a beautifully-written and compelling book, have had this on your shelf for the longest time and everyone keeps telling you to read it (now’s the time)
